Stakeholder capitalism promised a way to create value that business, society, and the environment could share. The conditions behind that promise have changed. Russia’s war against Ukraine, geopolitical fragmentation, energy security concerns, disrupted supply chains, and a political backlash against ESG are forcing companies and investors to make harder choices, often under immediate pressure.
The 2026 edition brings together panelists from business, politics, finance, and academia to ask what stakeholder capitalism means now. How should organizations define and measure stakeholder value? How can companies respond to short-term economic and geopolitical pressure while keeping long-term commitments, such as climate targets, on track? And what can the financial sector do to move capital toward stakeholder-oriented business models?
Earlier in the day, members of ESMT’s international student body will work through these questions in an interactive workshop, and a student representative of Net Impact ESMT Berlin will present the results on the panel.
