We cordially invite you to join the inaugural event to commemorate the appointment of Prof. Francis de Véricourt as the holder of the Joachim Faber Chair at ESMT Berlin.
The chair focuses on the innovations and startups based on cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence, new materials, and biotechnology. The goal of the chair is to gain and apply scientific knowledge to solve challenges in the field of business and society through the transfer and scaled application of the latest technologies.
The inaugural lecture, moderated discussion with Q&A, and reception will take place on campus.

About the speakers
Dr. Joachim Faber is the former Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Börse and Member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE. Dr. Joachim Faber spent more than 40 years in various sectors of finance (investment and corporate banking, asset management and financial infrastructure) in responsible and formative positions. After 15 years at Citicorp, he established and was responsible for the asset management business of Allianz as CEO of Allianz Asset Management from 1997 - 2012. After retiring from active board responsibility, he chaired the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Börse from 2012 - 2020 and was a member of the Board of HSBC Holdings PLC London. In addition, he was a member of supervisory boards in the consumer goods and technology industries (Chairman of JAB Holding, member of the Board Coty Inc., Infineon AG and Osram AG). In addition to his work in business, he has devoted himself to a variety of tasks in the fields of education and sustainability (for more than 15 years, he has been a member of the Supervisory Board of ESMT Berlin and a member/chairman of the Board of Trustees of German Cancer Aid, as well as a member of the German Council for Sustainable Development and the Government Commission on the German Corporate Governance Code. He has five sons and is married in second marriage to Dr. Ute Geipel-Faber.
Francis de Véricourt is Professor of Management Science and the founding Academic Director of the Institute for Deep Tech Innovation (DEEP) at ESMT Berlin, which promotes translational science and technology innovations, including biotechnology, digital health and artificial intelligence. He also holds the Joachim Faber Chair in Business and Technology, and is the co-author of Framers, a Penguin Random House book listed on Financial Times' Best Books. He lived and worked in France, USA, Germany and Singapore. His general research interest is in the area of decision science, analytics and operations, with applications in health care, sustainability and human-AI interaction.
Ann-Kristin Achleitner is an expert in entrepreneurial finance and actively invests in technology startups herself. Ann-Kristin Achleitner currently serves as a non-executive director on the boards of MunichRE, Linde and Lazard. She is a member of the International Advisory Board of Investcorp, the Advisory Boards of Lakestar and Techem, the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton (IAS), and is a member of the Future Council of the Federal Chancellor of Germany. Ann-Kristin Achleitner studied at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and holds doctorates in business administration and law. She has been a professor at the Technical University of Munich since 2001. There she held the Chair of Entrepreneurial Finance until 2020 and has been Scientific Co-Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial and Financial Studies (CEFS) since 2003.
Inge Kerkloh-Devif it the Senior Executive Director of the HEC Paris Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center and Site Lead of the Creative Destruction Lab Paris. Initially from an international background in the business world and after that in higher education, Inge was an ExCom member at Sciences Po before joining HEC and Creative Destruction Lab Paris. She evolved in the fields of Innovation, Global development, ExCom and Board Membership. She is contributing to international higher education networks, Investment Funds advisory boards, International jurys. Inge is an HEC alumna and has also been trained at Columbia Business School and at INSEAD.
